Dragon Moray Eel (Enchelycore pardalis)
From time to time we acquire some real fish rarities in store and this one is without exception, the beautiful Dragon Moray Eel (Enchelycore pardalis) which is just amazing.
Dragon Morays make great display animals for the larger home aquarium and require an aquarium of at least 700 litres in size. They need moderate care and are not for the beginner aquarist. They must be provided with suitable shelter sites, caves, rock work and other hiding holes which are large enough to accommodate an adult eel of up to 90cm. The Aquarium should also have secured tops in order to keep the eel from escaping the tank. Water conditions should be 19-25° C, dKH 8-12, pH 8.0-8.4, sg levels of 1.021-1.025.
They should be fed long strips of fish flesh, squid, and octopus. Like most morays they can be enticed to eat by impaling food on the end of a feeding stick/tongs and moving it in front of their head. It is also important not to feed your moray too frequently, because over feeding can lead to a fatty liver problems and other organ impairments.
When kept in very large aquariums (1000 litres or more) the Dragon Moray can coexist with large species like Triggers, Groupers, Snappers, Puffers, Lionfish and other similar fish species. It will eat other fish and invertebrates in the aquarium if they small enough to fit into its mouth.
We have one very beautiful Dragon Moray for sale as pictured for £1100.00 ONO, which is feeding very well and is not shy at all. It has accustomed to its handlers and other staff and is out on view a lot of the time. Please enquire at the shop if your interested.
